Required Vaccinations
DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines
All dogs are required to be up to date on the DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines. The DHPP vaccine protects against serious diseases: distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Bordetella helps prevent kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory illness, and is especially important for dogs in social or boarding environments. Rabies vaccination is legally required and protects against the deadly rabies virus; it is administered after the dog reaches 6 months of age. Proof of current vaccinations is necessary for participation in all dog-related activities.
In addition to the required core vaccines, several non-required but highly recommended vaccinations can help keep your dog healthy, especially depending on lifestyle, environment, and exposure risk:
Leptospirosis:
Protects against a bacterial infection spread through water, soil, and the urine of wildlife. Recommended for dogs who spend time outdoors, near standing water, or in wooded areas.
Lyme Disease:
Helps prevent infection from ticks carrying Borrelia burgdorferi. Ideal for dogs in tick-prone areas or those who hike, camp, or spend time in tall grass.
